Keynote Speaker
Mike Waite, President & CEO, Menasha Packaging
Mike Waite will share his vision for
the packaging industry and discuss such pertinent issues as lean
manufacturing and the future of digital printing on corrugated.
Waite will discuss recent acquisitions by Menasha and how the
company deals with big players such as Wal-Mart.
Lean
Manufacturing/Toyota Production System
Tom Schiller, Alcoa
Tom Schiller, of Alcoa (parent company
of Southern Graphic Systems) will discuss lean manufacturing as
exemplified by the Toyota Production System (TPS). Schiller will
explain the principles of the TPS, such as closing the gap between
expected and actual, and principles versus tools. Schiller will
explain how Alcoa has adapted the TPS for its use and discuss how it
helps with eliminating waste and people-solving problems.
Reducing Fluting
for Corrugated
Wade Southern, Dupont Imaging Technologies
Fluting, a light and dark striping
across the flutes of a corrugated sheet, is likely the most hated
print defect plaguing the direct print corrugated market. This
session will demonstrate the impact that the plate package (plate
and backing) has on fluting, and will highlight several different
plate packages. This information is critical for corrugated printers
who wish to improve their printing without investing in equipment
upgrades.
Differentiation in
Today’s Cushion Materials
Doug Cottrell, Rogers Corporation
Recently, its come to light that
several print quality issues formerly blamed on plates, inks or
anilox rolls, could actually be resolved by changing the cushion.
This session will discuss the different types of cushion materials
available and what structures work best in each situation.
Doug Cottrell of Rogers Corporation
will provide an overview of the Rogers product line. See how high
performance cushions enhance print quality and other quality
production issues.
Digital Printing
Revolution Makes it Possible
Danny Aboody, Scitex Vision
Digital printing, once a risky
technology, is now commonplace. As digital capabilities grow, new
opportunities emerge. Industrial standard digital printers make it
possible to be profitable on jobs that were not considered so until
now, such as sample printing, short runs and display printing.
Offering a broader line of solutions
to existing customers is a key for growth and digital printing is
making the difference. This session will present the underlying
technology of digital printing, the benefits to your business, and
things to consider when choosing a digital printer.
Security Issues in
Packaging
Alan Tonks, Paradigm (formerly IDENT)
Alan Tonks, of Paradigm, will discuss
the staggering growth of global counterfeit and diversion, and the
impact it has on brand owners. Tonks will explain how to apply
practical and cost effective solutions to counterfeit problems; and
his vision for involving consumers in the loop of identifying
counterfeit products. How will this phenomenon impact packaging and
printing in the future?

differentiate ourselves. This panel will cover topics such as the
possibility of printing RFIDs and antennae, HiFi and security
issues, and more. Whether the information applies to you or your
customers, you don't want to miss this session.
Improvements in
Sheet Processing Technology
MacDermid Printing Solutions
One of the main time-to-delivery
constraints faced by trade shops is the amount of time required to
process sheet photopolymer materials. This session will present
recent improvements in materials and equipment for processing sheet
photopolymer materials that improve productivity and thereby
increase profits for trade shops.
