FPPA , Flexo Market News Honor 2004 Award Winners

Robert Smithson, Trinity Graphic USA accepts and Excellence Award from Greg Kishbaugh, Flexo Market News.

FPPA recently presented its annual awards during its March 14-16 meeting held at the Westin Regina Resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  Agfa Corporation was the recipient of the 2004 Technological Innovator of the Year award for its Sublima XM for Flexo screening technology. The technology combines the techniques of both AM (Amplitude Modulated) and FM (Frequency Modulated) screening to deliver a new generation of technology known as XM (Cross Modulated) screening.

In addition to the annual Innovator award, FPPA distributed its Excellence in Flexo Prepress Awards, sponsored by Flexo Market News. The winners of the 2004 awards, by category, were: Southern Graphic Systems, in Flexible Packaging;

Southern Graphic Systems Joe O'Connor accepts an Excellence Award from Greg Kishbaugh, Flexo Market News.

Trinity Graphic USA, in Folding Carton; Printron Engravers, Inc., in Corrugated; and Inland Paperboard & Packaging, in Preprint Linerboard; and The Richard Godfrey, Best of Show Award to both Trinity Graphic USA, for its Folding Carton entry, and Inland Paperboard & Packaging for its Preprint Linerboard entry.

The Technological Innovator of the Year award recognizes achievement within any production or administrative area of the pre-press process. The concept of innovation includes enhancement of profitability, improved productivity, operating efficiency and product quality. Eligibility for this award is open to the entire membership of FPPA.

Jack Fulton, Printron Engravers, accepts an Excellence Award from Greg Kishbaugh, Flexo Market News.

The Excellence in Flexo Prepress awards recognize the combination of skills by the prepress company and printer to produce a high quality printed product. Areas in which entries were judged were match to proof, text clarity, substrate difficulties, ignette/screen quality, registration tolerances, screen ruling, image contrast/sharpness, reverse copy quality and prepress complexity.

Start saving those samples for this year’s awards program.  More information will be sent in the Summer and judging will again take place in the Fall.  All awards will be presented at next year’s convention in Florida.
