Texas Market Changes Abound
PTB ends; New TXU; Savings?
As Texans adapt to the elimination of Price to Beat rates that occurred
December 31, 2006, another major market change surfaces: a new TXU. The
$32 billion buyout of the Dallas energy company raises concerns from
many. While the key investors claim that this buyout is a long-term
investment that will free it from Wall Street pressures, others argue
that the buyout will contribute to environmental problems, allow TXU to
raise rates to cover buyout-related costs, and will soon be sold for a
profit to another buyer (Houston Chronicle, 2/27/07).
APPI encourages Texas businesses to
explore competitive electricity supply to manage and reduce electricity
costs. Budget certainty is available by choosing a fixed rate option.
Lock in now to avoid future rate increases.
Illinois Savings Thrive
Savings available NOW; future savings?
Illinois businesses are quickly securing electricity savings in the
competitive market. Since January 2, 2007, savings are available in both
ComEd and Ameren territories. As the uncertainties in the market
continue to be debated, future opportunities for savings may be limited.
APPI encourages Illinois businesses to
lock into savings immediately. The volatile market may quickly change
and make savings difficult to find in coming months. Budget certainty
should be considered as the business plans for 2007, 2008, and beyond.
