FPPA's Working During the "Dog Days"

Lee Grantham

FPPA President

We’re in the dog days of summer, which often means that we’re focused on getting our jobs done around vacation schedules, leaving little time for the “extras” like training and marketing.

FPPA’s committees have not had the luxury of putting anything off this summer, with a dynamic Management Workshop planned for September; and our coveted Excellence in Flexo Prepress Awards Competition entries deadline quickly approaching, September 10. I urge each of you to spend some time this month

combing your  warehouses for an entry for this year’s competition. The Awards Committee has created a few new categories this year, including one for technical achievement that will open the doors for each of you. Spend a few minutes reviewing the entry forms to see where you can make the most impact in this competition. You have an opportunity to gain exposure for your company and forge bonds with your clients through this awards competition. This could be one of the least expensive marketing campaigns you’ve explored for your company.

Right around the corner, on September 21-22, 2004 we’ll be holding our annual Management Workshop in Las Vegas. Our Management Development Committee has developed an outstanding program that will include sessions on Enhancing the Value Chain from Consumer Product Companies to Tradeshops; a Global Perspective on Where Digital is Going; a presentation on Flexible Packaging in Asia and How its Impacting Us in North America; and Ten Steps Toward Profitability. The Workshop will start off with a facilitated panel discussion comprised of representatives from Container Graphics Corporation, NPP Packaging Graphic Specialists; and Phototype.

It seems like a long way off, but the 8th Annual Convention, will be held February 27-March 1, in Miami, Florida. Promotional materials will be sent out this Fall. Don’t delay in blocking these dates on your calendar and making travel arrangements. The Program Committee has secured some industry leaders for the program who are certain to capture your attention.

As I mentioned in the last newsletter, one of my goals as President for the coming year is to increase membership, to make FPPA an even more worthwhile association that can truly represent the pre-press side of this industry. We’ve made some progress, having recently welcomed Phototype, Data Technology and Scitex Vision as new members of the Association. I’d like to be able to welcome several new members in my next column as well, but I’ll need everyone’s help to accomplish this. As you are speaking to your customers, suppliers and even competitors, let them know how valuable FPPA’s networking and programs have been for your company. Our Membership and Marketing Committees have developed a new brochure which is available from the FPPA office. If you would like staff to send one to someone, simply contact the office with your request.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas in September.
